Over the past 2 years we have been working on Alpha V1, an open-source Arduino compatible remote controller (transmitter). It has been a very long journey; but we are pleased with the outcome. In fact Alpha V1 became a lot more than what we initially thought. Initially we were thinking of making a remote controller that is open-source, but soon enough we understood that an open-source remote controller by itself will not be a deal breaker. So, we went back to the drawing board and brain stormed the core features that gives Alpha V1 its edge over the existing products in market. We are now happy to share the results with you.
Instead of making just an open-source remote controller, we made a remote controller that can be easily modified and customized for various projects. In order to make sure modification and customization get easier, we had to develop a new user interface that makes adaption to various hardware very smooth and easy. Of course the new user interface required us to work on many new libraries for Alpha V1. Moreover, we made Alpha V1's front and back out of laser cut acrylic plates, so that you can easily modify or laser cut new ones at a very low cost. We designed Alpha V1's body to be 3D print friendly and you can print it in different shapes, colors and materials.
Alpha V1 is Arduino compatible, so that you do not have to learn a new programming environment or install new software and drivers. The huge community around Arduino is definitely going to benefit Alpha V1 as with all other open-source projects.
We hope Alpha V1 open the door to more interesting and challenging projects by RC hobbyist and robotics and drone enthusiasts. With Alpha V1, you have one less thing to worry about.
